His mastery at skulking through the darkness of Empire City undetected is second to none, and even if he were found, the lasers he channels through his ruby-tinted visor are said to be as powerful as a thousand-times focused AER9 rifle laser.

The tragedy took his sight, but blessed him with a skill greater than he had ever imagined, as long as he honed it and concentrated. Under the guidance of a fellow blind man with less of a moral sense than even him, Murdock trained for years, devoting himself entirely to his vigilantism, fighting better blind than most people with sight.

THE AVENGERS STEVE ROGERS CAPTAIN AMERICA  “ [googlefont="Istok+Web"][googlefont="Open+Sans+Condensed:300"] The only known survivor of the Great War who didn't suffer ghoulification, Steve Rogers was part of the US Army's ten-man volunteer program to create a super-soldier who excelled in every physical attribute. Steve was the only survivor, but by the time his training to best utilise his abilities was underway, tensions with China had already started to rise. Not wishing to see their life's work jeopardised for the sake of other men's political ambitions, Steve Rogers, or Captain America, as they would have called him, was sealed with numerous figures of political importance in the depths of Vault 75, beneath the UN Headquarters, and preserved via cryogenics. Unfortunately, the Vault's ventilation systems malfunctioned, suffocating everyone inside within thirty-six hours of it sealing, and leaving Captain America, now a relic of the old world, to awaken only when Tony Stark happened upon him a couple of years ago.

Tony had never agreed with Alistair Tenpenny's methods or somewhat-loose ethics, and, though his father's work there had been massively beneficial to the tower's technological developments, Tony realised that the price they'd had to pay was far from worth it. In early 2273, young Tony Stark began to head north with his father's research, soon taking up residence in the Empire Wasteland. An encounter with raiders a few years past has left him with metallic shrapnel from one of his own weapons barely inches from the chambers of his heart, causing him to require an electromagnet embedded into his chest cavity in order to keep him from going into cardiac arrest at any given moment.

NICK FURY --  “ [googlefont="Istok+Web"][googlefont="Open+Sans+Condensed:300"] The Director of the S.H.I.E.L.D. branch of the Brotherhood of Steel, Nick Fury was a young acolyte in the Capital Wasteland under then-Paladin Sarah Lyons in the mid to late 2270s. After the liberation of the water purifier, Sarah ascended to her father's position, and Paladin Fury ceased seeing eye-to-eye with her. Whilst the bulk of the Brotherhood's forces wished to move west, to investigate the situation at the Hoover Dam, Fury did not agree. By the time they begun to move along the Damned 66 in late 2280, Nick Fury had already constructed from the Outcasts and the remnants of those who supported him in his anti-Commonwealth ideologies, and formed S.H.I.E.L.D., heading north. By 2281, the state of New York, which had long-since been free from the influence of any governing parties, was liberated and regulated by S.H.I.E.L.D., whose contingents still patrol the streets of Empire City today. Fury has appointed himself Director and oversees most S.H.I.E.L.D. affairs personally.

In doing so, he was branded a hero of the cosmos -- a status which lasted all of three weeks before he got really drunk at the helm of the Milano and crashed it, curiously enough, into his home planet of Earth, thirty miles out of Empire City, and deep in the bowels of Dead Valley.

A naturally-born mutant with the ability to control metals around him to astonishing degree, the young man of one of Caesar's dominated tribe was brought before Sallow and Graham when in the mid-2250s, after all others had been assimilated or executed. Seeking an emissary who did not bear the colours of the Legion for his work in the east, Caesar trained his Frumentarius until he left from Arizona for Nevada in the late 2270s, then finally dispatching him to seek out the truth behind rumours of a large base filled with pre-war tech beneath the Hudson River. Never did Caesar consider that perhaps Erik Lensherr had an agenda of his own...

THE FIRMAMENT CLETUS KASADY CARNAGE  “ [googlefont="Istok+Web"][googlefont="Open+Sans+Condensed:300"] No-one knows anything about Cletus Kasady. But the monster in red they call 'Carnage' has been a blight on Empire City for years. A feral ghoul resident of Mutantside, the long-forgotten babbling Cletus bounded through an abandoned underground lab looking for sustenance one day when he inadvertently smashed an experimental jar containing the Carnage symbiote. The bonding process restored Cletus' strength, memory, and lucidity, though unfortunately not his sanity, and the pair now lead a gang of borderline-feral ghouls and Super Mutants, killing, feasting, torturing, and pillaging their way around Manhattan looking for any way to reverse their various afflictions.

The year is 2284, and America is stirring. In the wake of the crises of the past twenty years, the Empire Wasteland is restless. Smoke rises on the horizon in Dead Valley from a crash site; an old Vault on Staten Island opens and shuts again in the dead of night; and travellers rowing around Ellis Island say that its walls are haunted, that the lights flicker when they pass. Whilst the SHIELD and the vigilantes that call themselves The Defenders still fight to keep Manhattan from being torn apart, it seems futile, for the city seems to be falling apart around them.
Tales of legendary human mutants and individuals of power are not uncommon in the Empire Wasteland, but something ominous lurches underground. The city is trembling once again. Will you discover its origins? Will you defend the innocent? Will you fight only to survive? Or will you see the city and the Dead Valley usher in a Mutant Empire?
