Possession - Having made a deal with a mysterious entity, Johnny was bonded with Spirit of Vengeance. As a result, he can now transform into a skeletal being wreathed in hellfire called Ghost Rider. There is no dead-on trigger for the transformation and while Johnny can't transform purely by his own will alone, nighttime and the blood of the innocent (in the given context, at least) being spilled nearby lower the threshold enough for him to be able to trigger it. In this form, Johnny gains access to all of his supernatural abilities.
Supernatural Physiology - Ghost Rider, thanks to his demonic origins, possesses a body that is far above that of a human. His strength is greatly improved, his body becomes inhumanly durable and his physical stamina is more or less infinite. The speed, however, remains unchanged.
Hellfire Manipulation - One of Ghost Rider's most prominent powers is the dominance over hellfire. He can project it from his being and manipulate it at will, but doing this in either great quantities or great qualities (or both) will exhaust him quickly. Its other function is to imbue small amounts of it in objects, making them temporarily demonic in order to increase their existing functions and properties when Ghost Rider is wielding them. For example, a vehicle would become faster, more durable and wouldn't need fuel as it would run on hellfire. A gun would become more potent and would shoot out bullets imbued with hellfire. The list goes on.
Hellfire doesn't differ too much from regular fire by its properties, and in most cases doesn't make all that much difference either way. Hellfire is a supernatural flame that burns both material and spiritual materials meaning that when used on a human, both their body and soul will suffer. The former manifests as physical trauma appropriate for a flame, while the latter manifests as intense mental strain. An utter destruction of the soul, however, is an extremely unlikely scenario. Hellfire is also very persistent, requiring a supernatural method if one desires to extinguish it quickly.
Chain Projection - Ghost Rider is capable of manifesting supernatural chains from his body. They are stronger than steel, but far from being unbreakable by human (or inhuman) means, and can be used to conduct hellfire. He also possesses small telepathic control over the chains, allowing him to move them around at will.
Renewal - Should Ghost Rider become injured, his body will start to regenerate. The progress, however, is slow and can range from a few minutes to a few days depending from the severity.
This also takes effect if Johnny happens to be killed in his normal state. In this case, he transforms automatically at nightfall. If it's night, he'll transform in a few minutes after the act.

APPLICATION
Our story begins with Johnny lying on the barren ground. He had been shot: their gang's ambush hadn't worked out how it should have and this was the unfortunately natural result. And he would have died, too. But then he head a voice.
"Do you want to live?"
It was the first instance of hearing that voice. A voice with no source, of unknown origins, was calling out for Johnny Blaze. He did not answer.
"Answer me, John", the voice urged. It was demanding yet polite. It gave the impression of authority. It was enough to get an answer out of him.
"I don't know". It was the only honest answer Johnny could give. If he had lived his life as his kinsmen had, he could have given a solid answer. But as he had started to doubt, started to question, even if mostly inside his head... he just didn't know nor did he have a way of knowing how. And especially not the time.
"There's always time. Time is what I offer."
"How?" Johnny still didn't know what the voice was. But since it had come to him at this time, it was clear that the voice wasn't all talk. Otherwise, why bother with this conversation in the first place?
"A contract. Your allegiance and your ethereal being in exchange for time".
"..."
"This is suspicious", would have been his instinct in a situation where he actually had a choice. He didn't even know what "ethereal" meant, making him wonder if the word was deliberate. But as established, Johnny had no time to wonder or argue about these kinds of things. So as a very natural result...
"...fine. We have a deal".
And as soon as he did agree, everything changed.
The rival gang saw a man they had shot to get on his feet. But as they were about to discover, it was not the same man. And as a very natural result, they ended up being the first.
Since then, Johnny has been travelling. Fighting. Struggling. And eventually, he arrived at Empire City.
This is, also, the part where our story begins...
