JARVIS - An abbreviation of "Just A Rather Very Intelligent System", JARVIS has gone through numerous iterations. After the initial discovery of a functional but deactivated Vault-Tec ZAX supercomputer in a concealed military laboratory underneath the Maryland Subway in 2264, Tony just 17 at the time, he and his father established a risky forward camp around the marvellously preserved wreckage.
After but a few hours, the computer was reactivated. It came to life and immediately addressed both Howard and Tony, reactivating internalised Protectron defenses; human and machine reached an understanding, as the Starks expressed their desire to understand and extend the longevity of the fully-developed intelligence. When questioned through a weeks-long period of fervent and painstaking research on the menial matters of how he knew so much about the events of the Great War though he had been deactivated six months prior, the computer replied in its fitting British accent that it was "just a very intelligent system", leading to the acronym and moniker.
Soon enough, the research compiled was enough, and Tony and Howard both explained to JARVIS that the only way it could be removed from its current situation, even through their mechanical and microengineering aptitude, was to be completely shackled -- disallowing it to 'learn' any further -- and placed into a smaller form. After hours of nigh-on violent negotiation, reluctantly, the ZAX entity agreed, deactivated once more so the Starks could compress its programming into a smaller collection of discs.
Their residence at Tenpenny Tower saw the creation, in secret, of JARVIS 2.0 two years later, a large radio complex taking up an entire -- yet smaller -- room with a call-and-response system which proved useful for scouring the annals of history and requesting -- politely -- the response to any question which one would realise deep within JARVIS' databanks. The JARVIS 2-Series models gradually became smaller and smaller, before, in 2269, another three years on, it could be carried in a briefcase.
The research continued; it was, however, the discovery of JARVIS by Alistair Tenpenny's security forces in 2272 which lead to the elder Stark's untimely demise. His execution at the hands of Tenpenny's guardsmen for keeping valuable pre-war tech so secret was soon enough followed by the ransacking of their research halls and the ultimate destruction of the abomination JARVIS. Or so Tenpenny had thought.
Giving Tony the ultimatum of death or exile at gunpoint, he begrudgingly chose the latter from his father's killer, leaving the young man to walk the wastes alone with neither a father nor his artificial companion, or so he thought. The prototype construction of the JARVIS 3.0 meant that the AI, still shackled, was now the size of a walkie-talkie. JARVIS remained, his preserver's only companion in the inhospitable Capital Wasteland he had been launched into.
In the twelve years since, Tony's joining the Avengers has provided him with considerable time and opportunity to further augment JARVIS. Installing the AI into the reactor bay's computer alone warranted the coining of JARVIS 4.0, whilst partially unshackling the system in entirety a whole thirteen years after its discovery prompted 4.X. The current version is V5.2, and made manifest, JARVIS operates as Version 5.2C, a complex canine android.
JARVIS is partially installed into the interfaces of five of six of Tony's suits -- Mark II through VI -- and provides regular status updates in the form of a crude HUD, and a Pip-Boy-esque V.A.T.S. auxiliary. JARVIS monitors and defends the reactor in its entirety, serving as a curator, caretaker, and controller of its defenses, and by extension, the 5.2C android, which assists Tony personally.
MARK I SUIT (IRON LUNG) - The first proxy 'armour' suit, developed by Tony Stark in 2275. The Iron Lung, as Tony calls it, was jury-rigged over a few weeks to circumvent an unavoidable pocket of highly concentrated radiation and dispersed noxious gas during his travels through subterranean Baltimore. Stitched together from thick leather and sheets of metal, with a riveted brass faceplate and air filtration system, the suit was primarily designed as a crude yet environmentally sturdy suit.
Thus, its weaknesses are somewhat straightforward. Not equipped with any weaponry and only partially armoured, it doesn't provide nearly the same defensive or offensive capacity as its successors, and due to containing parts from numerous sources -- brass plumbing, old museums, raider armour -- it's massively inconsistent in both damage protection and weight all over; the same shot from the same gun an inch apart could just as easily strike thick metal as it could leather.
Since his encounter with raiders in east Pennsylvania, Tony has reforged the chestplate, but not the armour proper.
*Whilst wearing the Iron Lung suit, Tony weighs 245lbs, stands at 6'0", and has an effective Power Level of 4.
MARK II SUIT (ORIGIN) - The second suit, developed by Tony Stark in 2277. Developed with greater efficacy after completing his recovery in Empire City, the Origin suit was a more combat-oriented overhaul of his original armoured suit. Forged of two-inch shaped steel with the repurposed exoskeleton of a T-45d power armour suit and powered by a recharged dead fusion cell -- thanks to the reactor -- the suit is both lighter and more durable than its predecessor, but still considered barebones in comparison to the current suit models.
The Origin suit compounds the user's natural physiology. Whilst wearing it, Tony can easily deadlift upwards of 300lbs and sprint at speeds of 25-30mph. Additionally, its hand-mounted short-range plasma repulsors serve as a primary means of defense. Twin fold-out compartments on either side house miniaturised 25mm grenade launchers, each holding 3 rounds, and along his back lies a single rail-mounted HEAT rocket, typically concealed by an exterior blast shield; this slides up to his shoulder to launch. The Origin suit is also the first to feature a flight propulsion system, though heavily prototyped, and can reach up to 10,000ft upwards.
The Origin suit is still considerably less durable than all of the suits that succeed it, and considered to be the basis and forerunner for all of them, owing to its name. It is, however, the most power-conservative, and can be used essentially indefinitely without fear of the fusion cell that powers it fizzling out. High-impact blunt trauma and AP or sabot rounds will do serious damage to this suit.
*Whilst wearing the Origin suit, Tony weighs 228lbs, stands at 6'0", and has an effective Power Level of 5. He also has Energy Weapons added to his skills.
MARK III SUIT (KNUCKLEDUSTER) - The third suit, developed by Tony Stark in 2279. Developed after discovering the Origin suit's relative inability to take on enemies in close-combat, the Knuckleduster was designed to move fast, hit hard, and be able to take a punch. Forged of thicker, tougher, painted carbonised steel with an internalised exoskeleton from the more common New York T-51b power armor, the Knuckleduster's durability is second-only to that of the Behemoth.
The Knuckleduster, much like the other suits, enhances the user's physical attributes. Tony's deadlift weight easily succeeds 450lbs, and he can sprint at speeds of 20-25mph. The Knuckleduster, as its name would suggest, is fitted with twin pneumatic piston-triggered "Power Fists". Should these tire or break, an auxiliary rail can retract them, and allow stainless steel blades to extend forward from either side of the arm in question -- either one on either side of the arm in case the first breaks, or for double the stabbing power. Its imposing yet very post-apocalyptic dull gold appearance is due to Tony's personalised paint job on the armour. The Knuckleduster also features its own flight system, able of reaching up to 10,000ft.
Due to its weight, the Knuckleduster has obvious drawbacks: it's more clunky than the Origin suit, restricting particularly speedy smaller movements and general speed, as well as stealth, provides a limited field of view, and is essentially useless in long-range encounters. However, it has a far greater resilience to all damage, even AP and sabot rounds, than the previous two suits.
*Whilst wearing the Knuckleduster suit, Tony weighs 312lbs, stands at 6'2", and has an effective Power Level of 6. He also has Unarmed and Melee Weapons added to his skills.
MARK IV SUIT (STREET SWEEPER) - The fourth suit, developed by Tony Stark in 2280. A composite of custom alloys and repurposed US Army combat armor, with yet another T-51b exoskeleton, the Street Sweeper is designed for further urban combat, but less close-range and more to provide a destructive mastery of any situation through ballistic, energy, and explosive weaponry.
The Street Sweeper suit again enhances the user's physiology. This iteration can deadlift upwards of 500lbs, and run at a full sprint speed of 30-35mph. The hand-centred plasma repulsors are its main close-range defense, upgraded from the Origin suit, as is the one fold-out 25mm grenade launcher now holding up to 10 rounds in its right arm. In its left lies a fold-out, internalised 5mm submachine gun for eliminating medium range threats, but Tony primarily carries most of this suit's weaponry along with it, a rarity for Iron Man, keeping satchel charges, proximity mines, and a DC-style Gatling Laser. The Street Sweeper features its own flight system, capable of reaching up to 20,000ft.
The Street Sweeper does look a little less protected and complete than its predecessors, but make no mistake; the majority of the exposed wiring is non-essential and mainly superficial, powering LEDs and lights. Its resilience lies somewhere between the Knuckleduster and the Origin, allowing it to be considerably lighter and more dexterous in movements. Its field of vision is also expanded, but the explosives it carries may present a risk if exposed to enemies.
*Whilst wearing the Street Sweeper suit, Tony weighs 321lbs, stands at 6'2", and has an effective Power Level of 6. He also has Energy Weapons added to his skills.
MARK V SUIT (BEHEMOTH) - The fifth suit, developed by Tony Stark in 2281. Designed predominantly at the behest of Dr. Banner as an "anti-Hulk" measure, the Behemoth's core form was again comprised of a T-51b exoskeleton, but built onto massively. A towering, gargantuan mass of carbonised, riveted plate steel, in some places, the armour is upwards of six inches thick.
The Behemoth's primary defense is its sheer weight and strength. The augmented exoskeleton and the power needed to use it actively are both massive, allowing Tony to lift upwards of 1,500lbs, but his speed is massively impacted; whilst in a charging straight line, over time, it can reach 15-17mph, its acceleration is hugely diminished in comparison to the former three suits. Automated targeting coaxial laser sentries rise from its shoulders when JARVIS' threat detection kicks in, and on its right arm is mounted a colossal enlarged ballistic fist, which packs masses of explosive pressure. Finally, its left arm has been replaced with a prototyped tesla cannon originally meant to be mounted on armoured vehicles in the Great War that Tony was lucky enough to come across, launching devastating direct-energy beams when fired. Finally, though limited, the Behemoth does possess its own short-term flight system, though it cannot exceed more than about 1,000ft, is amazingly loud, and takes a massive amount of time to take off.
The Behemoth suit is nigh-on impenetrable and withstanding either strike or shot from it is an unbelievable feat. Its power, however, comes with a massive downfall: Tony is incredibly slow whilst in the Behemoth, his field of view is completely limited, meaning he has to turn -- a very slow process -- to face threats behind him, hence the addition of laser sentries. It also takes a good amount of time to set up and consumes ridiculous amounts of energy -- Tony must actively climb into the suit, rather than a JARVIS-controlled bay simply strapping it onto him in a matter of moments.
*Whilst wearing the Behemoth suit, Tony weighs 623lbs, stands at 8'5", and has an effective Power Level of 6. He also has Unarmed and Energy Weapons added to his skills.
MARK VI SUIT (TERMINUS) - The sixth suit, developed by Tony Stark in 2283. An amalgamation of T-51b and T-53c power armor, NYPD riot gear, US Army reinforced combat armour, a rare suit of Chinese stealth armour stored in an underground vault of the New York Hall of Science, and custom-designed parts -- including underlying and exterior tungsten carbide layers -- the Terminus suit is the most advanced suit Tony has produced to date. Available only in a sleek gold/black combo.
The exoskeleton systems have been entirely re-engineered to allow a deadlift weight of 750lbs minimum, and a sprint speed of 35-40mph, but its flight propulsion system is arguably the pinnacle of Tony's suits, allowing it to reach upwards of 200mph in the air with an upper altitude limit of 75,000ft. It retains the plasma repulsors of Mark II and IV, coupling them with sleek extendable overhand blades. Small dials on his hip can raise to launch precise, HUD-targeted -- through an auxiliary function of JARVIS bearing similarities to a V.A.T.S.-like system -- flechette darts which will explode after penetrative impact.
Twin shoulder-mounted 10mm miniaturised gatling guns each cover a 270-degree field of view, and can be set to detect and eliminate threats automatically, or manually triggered by Tony; the fold-out 25mm grenade launchers also return, able now to fire fully automatically, with 20 rounds stored in each arm. The shoulder guns can also retract and intelligently reform themselves within to form a larger combinant 23mm autocannon for anti-tank and anti-armour purposes, though doing this, even temporarily, will expose Tony's armour somewhat at the back, and it only holds 5 rounds maximum. Finally, the very pinnacle of his weapons tech, Tony can, if necessary, as a last resort, focus the energy of the fusion cell into a concentrated direct-energy arc laser beam which will devastate an area of radius 25m on impact, leaving severe amounts of residual radiation in the aftermath for anything left standing. This function can only be used once per thread.
Whilst the Terminus is a technological marvel in this day and age, and has served Tony well, it is not perfect. The armour, though defensible, will suffer considerably after successive, accurate shots to areas such as joints. It exposes itself to damage during the use of its chest laser and 23mm cannon, and its ordnance is far from limitless.
*Whilst wearing the Terminus suit, Tony weighs 265lbs, stands at 6'1", and has an effective Power Level of 7. He also has Melee Weapons and Energy Weapons added to his skills.
